What Is Scrabble?
Scrabble is one of the most iconic word games ever created. Designed in the 1930s by Alfred Butts, the game was originally called "Lexiko" and later renamed "Criss-Cross Words" before taking the modern name we know today. Since then, Scrabble has become a worldwide classic, translated into dozens of languages and played by millions of enthusiasts both offline and online. The goal is simple: create words from a set of randomly drawn letter tiles and score more points than your opponent.
The game board contains 225 squares arranged in a 15x15 grid. Some of these squares provide special bonuses such as Double Letter Score, Triple Word Score, or the powerful Center Star which doubles your first word. Each letter tile has an assigned value, so short words like "OX" or "QI" can sometimes be worth more than longer, simpler words.
🎮 Quick Start Guide
- Setup: Each player draws 7 tiles
- Play: Create words connecting to existing tiles
- Score: Use bonus squares for extra points
- Win: Highest score when all tiles are used
How Does Scrabble Work?
Each player begins with seven random tiles. On every turn, you use some or all of them to place a word on the board. All words must connect to existing tiles, creating a network of intersecting words—similar to a crossword puzzle. After placing a word, you refill your rack from the tile bag until you have seven tiles again.
Advanced Strategies
Master short high-value words like QI, XI, JO, AX, OX and ZA. Use "hooks" to add letters to existing words. Save strong tiles (Q, X, Z, J) for high-value bonus squares. Play parallel words to score multiple words in one move.
